Why is the Federal government stepping in?

This is a real issue, and admittedly bothers me and other conservatives as well, but liberals, who have championed massive Federal interference with state and local issues of all kinds for decades, sound a bit lame when raising the point now.

I'm surprised they even found the Tenth Amendment in the back of their closets, much less managing to dust it off.
