She just has no "bullshit filter," that part of the brain that says, "hey, wait a minute..."
A classic scam, apocryphal or not, was the "money printing machine," where the con man would put a piece of plain paper into the machine, and a perfectly good, crisp 20 dollar bill would come out the other end. Wow! Only five hundred dollars!
The scam relies on the victim having no "bullshit filter." Has nothing to do with how smart someone is, either. A college professor might look at the machine, and be suspicious of how it works. Does it have ink inside? How does it deal with the special paper problem? Does the bill seem freshly printed? Maybe it's not as real as it looks. Should he take a sample to the bank? He might even come to the obvious conclusion that the machine eats the paper and cleverly disgorges a real bill from a small, hidden supply. Ha! Clever professor! No flies on him.
A high-school dropout truck driver with a healthy bullshit filter would take one look and ask, "why the hell are you selling a machine that prints legal money for five hundred dollars?"
