I have had it with the endless non-sense that is vomited out by the right wing about the Schiavo case. I am tired of the slanders. I am tired of the innuendos. I feel like I debunk one line of bullshit, they go back th their blogs, read something new, and come back here with a new line of garbage. So Lets see if we can deflate as many at once as possible, if that somehow helps.

Disclaimer: I try really hard to draw this info from a variety of media sources, so much so I have not read every shred of context. I am trying to show the fact that this information, these facts, are available accross the spectrum of bias out there. Some of the sites I link to, intentionally are 'pro-tube christian' sites.

1. There was a settlement of roughly 1 million dollars. Around 300k of that went to Michael, and around 700k of that went into a trust fund TO PAY FOR ALL EXPENSES RELATING TO TERRI SCHIAVO (the myth is that it was supposed to be for her care and her care only. Thats false.). This money is over-seen directly by a judge who rules the permissibility of expenses- from haircuts to clothing. Of the 700k earmarked for TS, all but 50k has been spent. 2. Mr. Sciavo has already turned down an offer of a million dollars to,and this is unambiguously stated, sign over guardianship to the parents and quit the case. He has refused. Read more about this here, and here and here

1. There was no, NO evidence of a brain fracture or head trauma or strangulation upon the original admission to the hospital, nor in any subsequent scan or examination made during her prolonged and detailed initial treatment
2. TS had a history, established by numerous accounts from friends and family, of bulimia. This was found to have caused a potassium imbalence resulting in Hypokalemic cardiac arrest and a resulting system wide trauma induced by lack of oxygen. The worst trauma suffered by the brain, which lost all higher function and has not recovered (nor can possibly recover)
3. Subsequent to the collapse into coma, a lawsuit was conducted by Mr. Schiavo claiming that the doctors in the case SHOULD have been able to diagnose and treat this condition. had any signs of blunt trauma or alternative cause of death been available to the defendants, they would have pressed this point. no such point was made by the defense.

1. Court-appointed, government-appointed, and private physicians have perfomed examinations and tests on TS and confirmed that Terri Schiavo is in a persistent vegetative state (PVS). This is NOT open for debate. If you don't really understand what PVS means, and you actually think its something that can be cured or recovered from, then read here. PVS DOES NOT EQUATE TO ANY LEVEL OF CONSCIOUSNESS. It is not sleep, it is not paralysis, it is not profound disability. Its the lack of Human Brain Activity, lack of self, lack of emotion, lack of language. ETC. No patient has ever shown any signs of recovery from PVS after 5 years. None. Never in the history of modern medicine. No Recovery. In fact the AMA states that the chance of recovery after the first 6 months with no improvement is minimal, were talking nearly TWO DECADES. PVS is a state of CORTICAL DEATH, meaning the cortex and neo-cortex are dead. for what that means, read here

2. There is no meaningful activity in her cortex or frontal cortex. Tens of Thousands of publications note that the Cortex and frontal cortex is the seat of everything we consider human. It is the seat of Self, Hope, Faith, Love, Rage, Memory, understanding, Knowledge. TS is in PVS and is CORTICALLY DEAD. here is some more data on what that means.

1. Mr. Schiavo worked to try to improve Terris condition AGRESSIVELY, and for many years in concert with the parents. Enrolling Terri in Deep Brain Stimulation and Thalamic Stimulator trials, using aggressive physical therapy to try to stimulate Terri back to consciousness. There are NUMEROUS scans and Findings during this time, NONE OF THEM INDICATE ANYTTHING OTHER THAT A DIGNOSIS OF PVS here
2. The data from these rounds of treatment and intensive and expensive therapy were vetted before a court of law in 1998. No credible data surfaced at that time that TS was not in cortical death. The motion to have the feeding tube removed was judged affirmatively. and ever since then its been noise and bullshit
3. The courts and the gonernment have appointed numerous neurologists and experts to either directly examine TS over the years, or review the cases. NOT A SINGLE ONE OF THEM HAVE EVER INDICATED THAT TS IS NOT IN A PVS. At best the one appointed by Jeb Bush stated that she probably is, but that one more rounbd of testing should be done IF. IF. IF the parents agree that the findings of that round are final
