I work in the insurance industry, and the rules here are similar
There are advantages to a company to have identical set-ups on all machines. And to have all work done on them by people who know and can enforce company standards and federal regulations.
It is as anoying as hell, of course. I got no Quicktime at work, for instance. But any time I need something like an Adobe upgrade, I can get it done within 24 hours.
