Didn't Magnesium have a flight heritage for a short time until there were a few fires involving it?

The Japanese used magnesium in the Mitsubishi Zero. American fighter pilots knew that they hit a Zero with an incinderary round that it would probably light the frame on fire. A Zero against a Vought Corsair was a very uneven (and short) battle. The Japanese fighter pilots were very brave men.
