more and more, design-work like this is turned over to computers.
Instead of writing code that is brain-like, a developer will design a way for a computer to design a successively smarter system.
We already do it to create mathmatical proofs and solve logic problems and (read recently on Space.com, I think) create optimal antenna designs for spacecraft.
Computers can try things out very rapidly, if humans can give it clear criteria for deciding which version is better and which version to trash. So I think think any superbrains will be created by a process more like evolution than software design.
Still doubt they will create any universes.
