Actually, more Americans believe in creationism than evolution.

A recent poll for NBC news showed 33% believed in evolution, vs 44% believed in the literal Genesis story of creation in six days. Similarly, a recent CBS news poll found a majority believe that living things on Earth were created by God in their present form, vs about 1 in 4 believing in divinely guided evolution, and 1 in 5 in non-supernatural evolution.

Those are national results; what they would be in Kansas I don't know, but imagine evolution fares worse here.

As someone who lives in Kansas, I can assure you there are a LOT of people here who think the same way as those yahoos on the State Board of Education. That even includes some of the PhDs with whom I work every day.

I can respect though disagree with libertarian-hawkish Republicans like Tom, but I think you guys deeply, deeply underestimate the strength, anger, and unlimited demands of teh religious right. They'll turn on your crowd in a heartbeat. Those in the GOP riling up the fundamentalists may not find it easy to ride the tiger they are unleashing.
