Hi Gary
Hayashi's are the more detailed. Iben's are significant though not as clear as my readings of later citations led me to believe - I had to work to extract the same data as in such citations.
An odd sensation was to see the original "Hayashi Track" diagrams I have seen in so many textbooks and reading his discussion of transparency of collapsing protostar clouds. I hadn't given much thought to what a protostar's radius does to its temperature at constant luminosity - though, of course, I know the basic equations. For example, a protostar can radiate at 40 "Suns" and yet be a chilly 30 K if it's 1100 AU wide - and it would be largely transparent! Opacity doesn't really count until temperature's climbing towards ~ 400 K or so.
Cool...
