Religion answers the questions regarding meaning of life and existence of afterlife, providing a sense of security as it does.

Science seems to indicate more and more that life is an accident maintained by a series of remarkably fragile connections. (That without these connections life wouldn't have started is another issue.) Science seems to increase the need for religion for those who want that type of security.
