Red Dwarfs in from the cold

Hi LJK

Red dwarfs have be rehabilitated as abodes of life - for example, the flares shouldn't be too disruptive because a climate system has a lot of lag and decent atmosphere is enough shielding, even a thin atmosphere keeps circulating heat so tide lock isn't a freeze-out, and the flares produce enough UV to match UV received by brighter stars, so plants would still get enough for photosynthesis.

Also we know now planets can be really, really close to stars - and if there's two they could set up a day/year resonance like Venus does to Mercury, keeping it rotating in spite of tide lock. My bet is that earth-like planets around red-dwarfs will be the migrated cores of Neptune-class planets, which seem to be as big a planet as most red-dwarfs are likely to have - with the occasional exceptions like Gl876's other two planets.

I really wish George Gatewood would publish something definite about Lalande 21185's two/three planets he reported back in 1996.
