As an aeronautical engineer / propeller head, I'd love to see more SSTs flying. However many of my coworkers were guys who wasted years of their careers on the now abandoned High Speed Civil Transport (HSCT) project that was funded by NASA. HSCT was America's SST project. The American SST has since been killed with a stake driven through its heart followed by the remains being cremated. If one is foolish enough to say that "SSTs are a good idea" in front of the wrong group of aeronautical engineers, he's likely to be shouted down and declared a blithering idiot. Supposably the economics simply are not there. Maybe this is sour grapes. During times that I was in London, I saw the Concorde fly over head and thought it was very cool (and also loud). Also I always got a kick out of seeing a Concorde at Heathrow. I find the old Boeing 2707 SST mockup at the Hillar Aviation Museum more embarrassing than interesting.
