You'd also find some Popular Science equivalent from 1939 showing the everyday family travelling in flying cars with the daddy going off to work wearing a jetpack. Somethings that we have today are truely miraculous. The Internet is a miracle!! Cellular telephones, home computers, DVD players, microwave ovens, hybrid cars, etc. are all examples of miraculous technology. Unfortunately most of the stuff they were showing in pre-1960s popular science magazines was pure fantasy. One of the reasons why we're marching off a cliff in terms of energy resources, etc. is because he believed those early fantasies would save our bacon, e.g. nuclear fusion.
