Speaking of flying cars
I've met this guy. His hangar is just across the way from where I refuel my Cherokee. He doesn't fly his Aerocar I very often because it's underpowered at our field elevation (6840 feet MSL). I've heard he also owns an Aerocar II, the only one ever built. The Aerocar I was a homely little beast but the Aerocar III was pretty cute and reportedly flew better. Back in the 1970s, I met their builder, the late Molt Taylor, at Oshkosh. He was a crusty old fart but a very good engineer.
I'm pretty sure he's building a new flying car just because he wants one, not because he thinks it's a practical vehicle. He has a lot of airplanes (and money). It must be nice.
