And yes, Mary Anne, I'm aware that there are many enclaves of "blue" voters in the suburbs, but they aren't all that "Blue" except in national politics. You'd be surprised how quickly the very same voters who have Kerry stickers on their SUVs turn into right-wingers when *their* property values and kids' schools and police departments are concerned.
The creepy hypocrisy of Blue voters -- who vote for policies that turn the cities into cesspools while they themselves live in suburban safety governed by people of definitely more "Red" sensibility -- is part of what made me cranky enough to write the response.
