Were you ever in the boy scouts?
I was, and it was not really a positive experience. They ARE a religious organization, despite the fact that the scout leaders are about the most morally degenerate people you will ever know.
They encouraged a 'lord of the flies' type atmosphere at their 'jamborees'
they are an outdated organization, your kids will do better to learn computers rather than wasting time learning to tie knots- knot knowledge has NEVER come up during a job interview.
