Never got past First Class--my brother and nephews made Eagle, which didn't hurt my brother's chances to get into the Air Force Academy.
I never saw overt religious indoctrination. There were things like short prayers before you ate sometimes at a campout, and the lyrics for "Taps" mention God, but where I grew up this sort of thing didn't cause one to scream and burst into flames like it apparently does in some parts of the country.
Our scout leaders, which included my Dad, were the leading members of the community. Often they were school teachers. Never heard of any moral degenerates among them, but again, where I grew up maybe moral degenerates weren't as common as they are in areas of the nation violently allergic to displays of religion.
A list of former Scouts at various levels can be found here.
If you think the purpose of Scouting was learning to tie knots, I can see where your problem is.
