When the IRS starts taxing religious certain organizations but not others, then isn't that a defacto government sponsorship of those religions that the government chooses not to tax?
The tax-exempt statuts of churches really should have little to do with whether they are politically active or not. Some religions may promote political activism as moral behavior while others may shun it. Does that make either more or less of a religion?
Either tax them all or don't tax them all... Anything else would equal government sponsorship of religion. Personally, I think they all should pay tax at corporate rates...Most spend what they take in, so most should show a net profit of zero.
I think it is ridiculous that tax exempt organizations are allowed to compete with taxed organizations.
Why should Disneyland pay tax on its amusment parks when Jesusland gets off paying nothing...
I bet Jesusland is pretty boring...But then I digress again...
