This is a test. If it had been a real emergency...

I wasn't expecting any discussion, I got exactly what I anticipated, the predictable Galvanic spasm from the usual suspects. Personally, I don't care much for Chris Matthews, although I do agree with him (partially) on this issue.

And yes, it still is all about Bush; a gleaming monument in the wilderness to Republican gullibility, pig-headedness and stupidity. You see, it's not just that the man was a bit slow, after all, fools are found flying all flags. What made him special is the mental gymnastics Righties had to twist themselves up into to try and cover for him. Most thoughtful conservatives understand he was a man of modest mental talents who proved inadequate for the job. Hell, they understood it then, they just dared not admit it publicly.

Today, you will note his advice is not sought out, no one writes glowing articles reminiscing of his triumphs and insights, he is shunned from the councils of the Klown Kar Right, the Libertarian loonies, the wackofundamentalists and the Daddy Warbucks side of the GOP. Mr Bush is not invited to Republican love-ins and conservative hootenannys. His speeches are only quoted by Democrats. His party is trying to pretend he never even happened, he has become an unperson. The same shuffling Good Ole Boy they made excuses for for eight years has vanished from sight into a lonesome and unforgiven obscurity. It is up to us Libs to make sure he is never forgotten.

The True Believers still have to bring up his name and make excuses for him as if that will somehow magically restore his reputation. For eight years they made fools of themselves and squandered all their credibility covering up for the poor man. I believe its their reputation they are desperately trying to rehabilitate. After all, with those Bozos, it's their manhood that's at stake.

After Clinton, Bush was the GOP's Great White Hope. He was groomed to be the New Reagan, all the way to the "aw, shucks" cowboy schtick. What they got was the New Hoover, instead. And now they are terrified Obama will become the New FDR. For that reason it was imperative they destroy him, not just at the polls, but as a man, a personality, a memory. The 2012 election demolished that effort and delivered them a devastating and humiliating psychological defeat. That's why they took it so hard, and why they hate him so much. You need not search for bigot billboards on Dixie's rustic roads, you can hear the hate loud and clear right here on this board.

So Matthews doesn't have it quite right. It's not really about racism, I'm sure the GOP will nominate a tame black, woman, or Latino next time around, just to prove how fucking enlightened they are now. Its really about how they can no longer rely on Troglodyte Nation for the extra added edge of votes they need in a close one. They are now the minority, and more so every day, and that scares the shit out of them boys. They, better than anyone else, know what happens to minorities.
