The impending end of our oil bender

James Howard Kunstler's The Long Emergency: Surviving the Converging Catastrophes of the Twenty-First Century is reviewed by Bryant Urstadt in MIT's Technology Review magazine.

Haven't read the book itself yet, but I'd like to. Judging by the review, it consists of several hundred pages of doom and gloom. I just hope that the darkest of Kunstler's predictions result from the need for mood-altering medication rather than insight. The reviewer does suggest Kunstler doesn't have enough faith in A) human ingenuity, and B) the will to continue living The Good Life™.

Best line of the review, though: ...the Peak Oil Apocalypse may get filed along with Y2K under "false alarms and other diversions." Even now, it may be dismissed by some with laughter. But it ought to be nervous laughter.

I'd be interested in what you guys think.
