U.N. report on opium

Hardly contains any news to pat any backs over. The tonage of opium produced only dropped 2% according to this report.

At the same time, the purity of the drug increased 33% average. Do the math this is an increase reflecting the efficiency of the producers to achieve this increase while reducing the acreage needed to do so.

And according to UN Office of Drugs and Crime in their 2003 report titled Global Illicit Drug Trends, "from 2000 to 2001 the worlds illicit opium production declined by 65%. That considerable decline was was primarily the result of a ban on opium possy cultivation enforced by the Taliban regime that reduced Afghanistan's opium production by 94%.

FYI opium poppy cultivation resumed in Afghanistan in 2002. Just how can you spin this into a Bush administration success?

Inquiring minds want to know!
