Honey pots

I'm skeptical about proxies these days too. Government security agencies would consider proxies to be natural enemies, so the continued existence of proxies, including those located in the US, is a bit suspicious. They'd logically conclude, I think, that since proxies can't be eliminated, they should make lemonade from the lemons and set up their own "honey pot" proxies to be able to monitor at least some of the traffic, and maybe get lucky.

I'm thinking about setting up a proxy for registered Zoners. But it's not within my power to guarantee that it won't be hijacked by the government. If an NSA puke shows up and cites one of the secret provisions of the "Patriot" Act as authority to set up a tap on my proxy, what could I do? Those laws are reported to include automatic gag provisions, so I couldn't protest or appeal to a higher authority or in any way let anybody know about it. It's quite possible that operators of existing proxies have been put in that situation.
