Quite the mystery

People used to wonder where babies came from. The cabbage patch. A stork. Of course these were covers. Nevertheless, when it came to the details, the hidden process, even the experts didn't know. Newton didn't know. Darwin didn't know.

Let's be symbolic for a moment. Because just for a moment lets acknowledge that I don't believe there was a singularity at the beginning of the universe. I don't know what there was, but I'm inclined to believe anything else. I'll even invent something to avoid the absurdity. If life is a model for the universe, then some combination of "elementary constituents" initiated our universe. Also, our universe will mature long before it is dead, generating those same "elements" needed to spawn another universe. What those elements are, I have no idea. Maybe life is what catayzes the process. Maybe we are supposed to do something eventually. Play our part. Maybe our insatiable appetite for energy is what triggers this process. Who knows. Tough break if that's the meaning of life.
