re: Impactors as a reason to do anything

The stats for a major whole civilization altering impact is something like 1% to 2% in a 100 to 200 years. If this was the odds of some much smaller impact I would not be alarmed.

You didn't address my fears about an other events like a pandemics or other likely to happen shortages or other event that could alter civilization in a negative way. Time cannot be assumed to be on our side unless you want to hide your head in the ground.

I should point out that some experts believe that if the 1918 pandemic had gone on a week or so longer we would have falling back into the dark ages. At that time there was no rapid transit from one continent to another. Yet it spread like fire in a prairie. And now we live in a time where a person can leave China at noon on Monday and walk off the plane 12 to 15 hours later.

I can't help your dislike of Pork. It is the nature of humans to find ways to spend money to benefit themselves. As an example look at how the repubs are running the USA into the ground right now.
