Iraq is the base for a new generation of jihadists, well trained in urban warfare, who have begun to take the battle abroad.
One of the predictable consequences of his war was this - that instead of being notably free of al-Qaida and not exporting terror, destabilizing the area would create both a breeding ground and haven for terrorists.
Which has happened.
One of the bigger untruths told by Bush is that the war on Iraq was part of a war on terror. Not only are the neocons wrong, which would be bad enough, they have created loads and loads of what they SAID they wanted to prevent.
Which wasn't there to prevent.
There's was such a big lie one cannot expect them to admit it. And because the opponents of this blatant aggression are so clearly right.
