re: What we're fighting for
TOM: "The huge difference between now and four years ago is that now this kind of thing is being treated as a crime by the Iraqi leadership. Bowser didn't get it. I'm hoping you will."
That article says nothing of the sort. In fact what the article states is that the Iraqi government, specifically the Interior Ministry appears to be directly involved in these murders and is acting with impunity.
Your naivete knows no bounds, Tom. Here we have an article that documents hundreds of Iraqi citizens being wantonly killed, apparently by their own government and your response is "no big deal...lets move along folks...nothing to see here."
This sectarian based violence was predictable. It is precisely the reason why Saddam rulled Iraq with such dictatorial vengeance. All we've done is traded one despot for another.
One hopes we can resolve this morass, but all indications are that Iraq is no more stable today than it was a year ago. In the meantime, the Bush death count hit 2,110 today. It shows no sign of slackening. Its a quagmire - a war being mismanaged by a bunch of chickenhawks who haven't a clue how to fix it.
