Oh the roots of this domestic spying go back to Echelon and even before that became known! While cleaning out my letterbox tonight, I found a small clipping I had cut out of the back page of the Tampa Tribune dated August 16, 1991 that annoyed the shit out of me then.
It said:
INTELLIGENCE RULES OK'D
Kennebunkkport, Maine
President Bush on Thursday approved intelligence gathering changes stemming from the Iran Contra affair, putting into law for the FIRST TIME (capitals mine), new tools for congressional oversight of covert activities.
So there you have it, Bush Sr. did whatever he damn well pleased to run his foreign policy back then and Congress be damned! We all know what Iran Contra was about, eh? They ran drugs for arms, lied to the American public and thumbed their noses at us.
They changed the rules so WE would stay out of THEIR business.
Yup, pretty slick #41 and #43. Our democracy is GONE.
Finito. Pffftttttt.
