(Part of my first paragraph got deleted because of my abuse of the carot symbol) Here's how it should have read:
Seriously, how do I load that on a client machine without raising Eyebrows of the employee(s) in question?
Its pretty easy. From the Backup Exec program on the server (I use release 10) goto tools, Add Remote Ageant, Right Click on Remote Agent for windows, browse to the client machine on the network, Install. From there it installs it remotely without the target user knowing anything about it unless they happen to go into Add/Rmove Programs and know what the Remote Agent is.
On an unrelated note regarding backups, do you actually get 72GB on your DAT72 tapes? I have a DLT tape drive which is supposed to be 80/40 GB (compressed/uncompressed). On my nightly backups I rarely can fit 60GB on it. Recently when I backed up my Archive server which has all dead projects zipped up and read-only to the network, i couldn't even fit 40 GB on one tape. I know that zipped files can't compress much more when going to tape, but it still surprised me when it took 2 tapes. Shuffling tapes without a tape changer is a major pain, so I'm thinking I either need to buy one this year or change the way I do backups. One option I've been mulling over is outsource it to a company who keeps it offsite in multiple tarballs, which I can access across a web interphace. It costs a lot more per month and has a costly setup cost, but doesn't suffer from the never ending problem of running out of space.
