The whole point of a battlestargallactica class cycler is that it stays in an orbit between two bodies. It retains most of it's momentum which gets redirected at each destination. Some "shuttle" joins the craft at one point and leaves it at the other.
That way all the fuel needed, besides initial acceleration, is to get crew and perishables to and fro and some orbital tuning along the way.
That way you have a very capable platform to convey serious people and materiel.
That way, you have a well seasoned (tested, shook down) piece of hardware without having to dispose of it after every mission. Imagine if they scrapped every Seawolf submarine after every tour.
That way during a serious solar flare, 5 people don't cower in the pooper in the Zubrin style tuna can, but sit relatively comfortably in a well sheilded shelter.
That way you have an ISS scale platform without the hazards and myopia of near Earth space. Astrophysics / Amtrack to Mars.
And so on and so on.
It would also have the capability to "shoot" nuclear warheads for NEO mitigation, perhaps?
