AARP has a walk-through of the Medicare assistance site here. Note near the bottom that there is apparently a phone number that can be called to personal assistance on this.
There are probably local outfits that are helping the elderly with this--there are around here, including the major drug outlets--but I don't know where "local" is for you. Try a search under "Medicare Part D Help."
There is much wailing about how complicated all this is, mostly from the same kind of people who look at you like you're from Mars if you propose simplifying the income tax system.
