The glass half full

There's no denying that McCain outpolls Clinton. But her numbers are strong in absolute terms--she consistently polls near 50%. It's just that McCain is a very strong candidate. So strong, in fact, that he's almost a sure thing; yet, for reasons that baffle any rational person, there's strong reason to doubt that Republicans would support him because he's a "RINO".

John Edwards would kick Condi's behind, according to thoe polls; but she'd beat Kerry; but in turn, McCain would wipe the floor with Kerry. Giuliani and Hillary poll even. She'd thrash Bill Frist, but then even Kerry would thrash him. What's it all mean, Tom?

Sometimes the most insightful poll questions are the simplest:

"Thinking ahead to the 2008 presidential election, would you like the next president to be similar to George W. Bush in terms of policies and programs, or someone who is completely different?"

60% say hell yes, 36% would prefer business as usual, and only 5% are unsure. The one thing you can predict with absolute confidence about the 2008 election is that the winner will have to put as much distance between him/herself and Dubya as is humanly possible. The country's got a bad case of Dubya fatigue.

The guaranteed losing strategy in 2008 is to continue to defend George W. Bush.
