Our "gravitational well" is very deep.
It takes velocities over 11.0 kilometers/second
to blast anything to escape velocity from near the Earth's
surface.
Yes...asteroids can do it...but the bigger the asteroid...the more
energy unleashed in the form of "heat".
And that heat spells troubles for any organism.
