Your position on space is absolutely indisputable, Tom (and I couldn't resist the novelty of actually saying that!).
Sometimes it makes me want to scream to think of all the opportunity and resources wasted. And I admire the work of the private space industry, and not just Burt Rutan. My taste in engineering runs to cheap and practical designs like Gemini and Soyuz, and I actually enjoy seeing new designs paying homage to the proven concepts. The thought of a modern Gemini with structured composite shell and modern computers and avionics sounds downright cool, and I don't care at all that it doesn't have pretty wings.
Not particularly relevant to the main argument with alcaray, but like I said, I had this crazy urge to agree with you for once.
