Oh, my God, I haven't had as good a laugh all week!
Sure, I'm living in a country where there are religious police, but I can't immigrate to Canada based on the fact that I wear clothes that won't get me beaten up on the trip to the embassy. Beautiful!
And, should there be a functioning brain cell at the embassy that understands the situation (no insult intended to the existing Canadian foreign service, which is full of functioning brain cells), I would have to stand before the Inquisitors and answer the questions correctly. How long do you think it would take to generate a list of correct answers to distribute to applicants for work visas, hmmm?
I suppose you would reject a Mennonite woman seeking to immigrate to Canada because she wears the little "sin strainer" over her hair as part of her religious expression. They have a large missionary group too, so they are obviously religious "extremists", i.e., seeking to convert others.
When I think of all the Pakistanis and other Muslim immigrants I meet because of our proximity to a large teaching hospital and several colleges and serious engineering firms, many of whom are either naturalized US citizens or are studying to become so, when I think about all their charm and their intelligence and their professional expertise, when I think about their polite and respectful children, I will be happy to take your "rejects" into the US.
Canada is very lucky that you don't work in Immigration. They would lose a lot of talent.
