re: Wow

Thank you for the kind words. As for my take on what might happen if we pull out of Iraq, see the post

further down on this page. (It is a response to a post by Mr. ljk) I don't think all the terrible things that have been predicted if we pull out tomorrow will necessarily happen, and if they do, they won't necessarily turn out that badly for us. But no one can predict the future, and there are always unintended consequences from wars, even the ones you win.

I am very conflicted by all this, because I initially supported the war, I was convinced about the WMDs and I felt they had to be stopped. You don't go to preemptive war unless attack is imminent and all other avenues have failed to get results. Just because Saddam was a monster does not give us the right to invade him, but if he's building nukes and brewing bugs and poison to use against us it does give us the right! What I didn't anticipate was the smug, arrogant incompetence of this administration when it finally learned the truth.

Well there were no WMDs, and I don't even blame the Bush gang for getting it wrong, maybe it was an honest mistake, but a terrible one. Now what do we do if we learn the Iranians or N. Koreans are doing the same? Who's going to believe us? This is a problem our next president will probably have to face, while Mr Bush is down in Crawford chopping wood and writing his memoirs. And they'll probably name airports and turnpikes after him.
