re: Still wondering

Pas mal, pas mal, mais cependant....

For the Germans and the French to adopt this position is incomprehensible.

However:
Europe has known wars for centuries. We've been invaded, occupied.
Europeans know a war is the last and worst solution possible because it leads to destruction, death, revenge, chaos and total uncertainty as to what it's outcome would be.

Iraq was not occupying another country nor were there any indications (like just before Gulf War 1) Iraq was threatening one of its neighbours again. Therefore, attacking Iraq would also mean it would be impossible to chase an enemy away as it comes from that same country. And this would risk evolving into a guerilla or civil war.
Usually, wars are caused by territorial issues.

Nothing can justify invading and occupying a country if your own or the surrounding ones aren't threatened.
