What a great idea Fox. The only thing I would add is that membership in such a corp, should be under some employment protection such as the national gaurd enjoys. While I'd love to go help out Katrina victims, I don't have the resources to do it on my own dime, nor can I afford the time off of work without pay. However if I were allowed 2 to 3 weeks per year when called up that weren't subject to employer reprisals I would join up. This could however be devastating to the employer if the call-up were to happen at an inopurtune time, so some limits should definitely be set in place, such as the employer can only call it job abandonment if the employee hasn't returned to work after 3 weeks. The employee may ask the employer for an extension, but such is at the sole discretion of the employer.
