We no longer live in a world characterized by great powers jockying for position, the New World Order is here, dominated by multinational corporations and dotted with outlaw nation-states. It looks a lot more like the "Dune" universe than Asimov's "Foundation and Empire", or the United Federation of Planets. The ubiquity of nuclear and rocket technology in the hands of people like Iran, N Korea and the SW Asians,
is troubling. There will be others, too.
It appears that deploying missile defenses is the type of expensive technology which will continue to separate the major nations from smaller ones, so there may be a proliferation of these systems as well, a technology which only completely fulfills its purpose when it is never used, as with nuclear weapons. I agree that there are dangers in following these policies, but I'm afraid that its out of our hands now.
Current Events » in reply to treaty never ratified. we upheld its requirements voluntarily.
If that's the case, then all bets are off.
