The author of the Ottawa Citizen piece, Mr Joel Kom was a “2002 summer student with the Communications Bureau of the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Tradeâ€- (quote from http://www.dfait-maeci.gc.ca/canada-magazine/issue17/17t2-en.asp)
and is listed in the Ottawa Citizen as an INTERN?

The article was more of an editorial comment than detached reportage.
With no disrespect to Mr Kom, who may be a fine young man, these are hardly the credentials of a seasoned commentator.
Regardless of where Hezbollah was, or what they were doing, the UN presistently asked the Isreali military to desist. This was rejected and four brave and decent soldiers were killed. This was reckless at best, and in many opinions a criminal act. The Israeli military disgraced itself and no amount of rhetoric or cheap debating tricks can alter this.
Accepting this is not to give support to Hezbollah who are we all agree despicable;it is to give honour to the UN observers.
