There isn't a single movie that got everything right in space!
The excuse : otherwise it would be boring!
Well, producers could use a little more imagination.
The 2 best movies are 2001 and Apollo 13 and yet....
In 2001: moon and earth phases don't correspond; stars have all the same magnitude; they move; they're shown when the sun is also present; there's too much gravity when there shouldn't be (why walk with velcro-shoes when floating is so easy?)....and many other mistakes.
Kubrick was right about the silence...AND HE REPLACED IT WITH MUSIC!! Is music necessarily boring?
It could be intentional and advisable to show boring scenes....to demonstrate what space is.
In Apollo 13 there are also stars when they shouldn't be visible, all the same magnitude, in random order; the SIVB is ignited for TLI when the Moon is on the other side of Earth, so the Moon cannot be visible; there is sound in space, the Fra-Mauro scenes show the Taurus-Littrow Vallei...
Meaning, there is still room for a producer to finally make it right. But the question is : would one do it? And why not?
Why the constant misinterpretation?
Isn't our own fascination for space actually affected and twisted by what we know about it and have it wrong?
SF authors have thought for decades spaceflight would be almost as easy as airflight....And we're back to square one with capsules and no winged vehicles.
We've thought there would be life on all the planets until facts showed otherwise. Mars fascinates because it looks like Arizona but there are so many show stoppers before we can get there.
Space is about facts and we should know them, understand and appreciate them before we can envisage space the way we thought we could or else we can shift our motives for space taking the facts into account and face them and convince the others they're worth our interest.
Sounds in space and other things in movies
