Remember the original Star Trek crew doing that as well? Someone suggested why
didh't they wear seat belts, while one of those annoying physicist types said that
an explosion in space would not rock a spaceship unless it happened quite close
to it.

So they tried filming action scenes of the Enterprise being attacked by some
alien vessel and the bridge crew just sitting there in response to it all. The
drama and suspense disappeared, and since they were creating a television
series to make money, they went back to Kirk and company flying across the
bridge while having the 23rd Century control panels without fuses explode
and spark and spew white smoke like crazy.
