Why is Charon going to be a planet?

I can handle Cere's being a planet if Pluto is going to be a planet, but why is Pluto's moon going to be a planet? Following that logic, shouldn't all the large round moons of the Solar System be called planets? Heck, the Earth's Moon is bigger than Pluto and Charon combined.

Maybe the reporter got confused with Chiron?
