An earlier "reworking"

One marvelous episode of "Deep Space Nine" had the protagonists traveling back in time to the original episode of "The Trouble with Tribbles."

In a tour de force of special effects, the current stars were seamlessly meshed into the actual (digitally remastered) footage from the original series. The story was a hoot, too.

As I remember, digital updated versions of the space station and the Enterprise featured in that particular episode.
