Will they update ST to conform today's PC standards as well?

Will they delete Spock's snide and rude comment to Yeoman Janice Rand after the
"evil" Kirk tried to rape her at the end of the episode "The Enemy Within?" Apparently
snickering at a woman - and a starship crewmember - who was assaulted will be a
laugh riot in the 23rd century, according to writers in the year 1966.

Or how about that discussion between Kirk and McCoy in the 1967 episode "Who
Mourns for Adonais?" regarding the obviously beautiful Lt. Carolyn Palamas (plain
and outright ugly women weren't allowed to serve in Starfleet) who would of course
someday marry a man and leave the service. Ya know, to stay home and make
babies and dinner for hubby. Forget all those years she spent studying ancient
civilizations - it was just a ploy to find a good man, of course.

And how about in the very last episode of the original series in 1969, "Turnabout
Intruder", where it is plainly stated several times that women aren't allowed to
be starship captains. Paging Captain Janeway - Get off the bridge! And take
that female chief engineer Torres with you - but Seven, you can stay. You
were obviously chosen for your, uh, talents, and not to boost ratings among
the pubertizing male set, not at all.

And then of course there's Kirk hitting on anything even remotely female and
attractive, whether it be on an alien planet they aren't supposed to interfere
with or one of his own crew (Dr. Noel - apparently they "got together" at a
shipboard Christmas party, get it? And oh my - celebrating a DENOMINATIONAL
HOLIDAY??!)

At least Picard knew to keep it in his pants, but when he did boldy go it was
usually with women his own age, intellect, and tastes, plus he actually tried
to form mature relationships with most of them.

In summation, they should just leave the original series alone. I can't believe
anyone thinks that sample image of the Enterprise above Earth is good - cheesy
is the polite word I will use. I think they actually did a better job in that
particular area of the FX department back in the 1960s.

Oh yes, Miri's World - the duplicate of Earth. Hey, if you didn't remove the
clouds, how would you know it wasn't just any old Class M planet, huh? Plus
how do you know they weren't having a really, really clear day over that
continent? Maybe the disease that wiped out the adults affected the
weather too, and made the continents look just like ours while I'm at it.

And on a slightly more serious note, if you look at old artwork of Earth from
space going right through the Apollo age, you will more often than not see
our blue globe depicted as cloud-free. Weather sats were only just starting
to return images of what Earth really looks like from space and people of
that primitive era were still thinking of their cloudless Rand-McNally globes.

And top it off with those crude special effects, it's a wonder anyone even
survived the 1960s!

Would the world really have come to a grinding halt if the first three Star Wars
films hadn't been "modernized"? Did anyone really look at those films from
back in the day - which pretty much ignited our wonderful error-free CGI
entertainment - and complain about how crappy the FX were compared
to now?

And now I discover through this thread that Kubrick wanted to "update" 2001?!
Maybe God struck him dead before he could commit such a blasphemy upon
what is still one of the greatest SF films of all times.

Remember Ted Turner's attempts to colorize classic black and white films,
and how crappy they ended up looking while not adding anything to the
original films? I heard he was going to colorize the first 15 minutes of
The Wizard of Oz, too.

Leave Star Trek alone. Let me have my few remaining memories of an era
that relied more on writing, plot, and characters when they knew that the
FX budget and technology just wasn't there.

What next, updating Forbidden Planet - OMG!!!!
