Christians pressuring other Christians to not take things to the extremes is going to result in tanks blowing up the school. Oh very good. I'm sure you learned that debating technique from Pat Robertson.
How about instead just an acknowledgment that there's a scary component to places like this and maybe it might be a good topic in a sermon as to where not to head in one's philosophy. A pastor could use examples like this one along with history of fundamentalist abuses in other cultures and religions. Then, just maybe they could challenge their congregation with the peaceful parts of the messages of the New Testament.
But no Tom. I think the whole Christian warrior thing appeals to you. Somehow dismissing people's outrage over this because you perceive anti-Christian messages in our public schools is completely bogus and as always an avoidance of the true message of the thread. Here's the truth of that matter since you brought it up.
There are numerous liberals, progressives, atheists, scientists, agnostics, etc. in the teaching profession and they more than likely greatly outnumber the more conservative types in our public schools. I will always acknowledge that. To somehow imply though that they are pushing their agendas on innocent school children would be a clear violation of the concept of separation of church and state and an affront to their own basic principles. The educators I've spoken with (and I get a huge exposure due to my wife being a teacher) instead tell of the traps laid out for them simply for bringing up issues of our day to their students or trying to teach accepted scientific theories. All it takes is one fundamentalist family's child in the classroom protesting to the school administrators and that teacher's livelihood is threatened.
You seem to imply some politically driven motivation for the balance to be tilted to the left in our public schools and yet the reasons seem obvious to me. Show me a very conservative Republican who will accept the low pay and limited career path given to teachers. The jump into that profession is clearly a liberal ideal. It's this whole concept of giving back to society, of returning some of the success your country and government provided you.
Yet somehow Tom, you went through a school system surrounded by all these flaming quasi-socialists and you ended up diametrically opposed to their philosophy. Some indoctrination. Just maybe their influence instead gave you the balance you needed from the very innate human traits of greed and fundamentalism to keep from becoming some terrorist yourself.
