I agree Delbert, people that tend to show some interest will go out and buy the $60 walmart telescope, get it home and see fuzz, which destroys the orignal interest they began with. Our club has star parties and opens up to the public our 6",10", 12" scopes, and the big boy 25". The public is made to realize that some fair amount of money has to be spent to actaully view quality. Last week we had a small public star party and the club pres had his 6" refractor set up viewing the Andromeda Galaxy, people were awed and you would have thought they were looking out of the space station windows, it was a pleasure to see the excitement.
I don't have the best scopes but both are 5" reflector Meades, and can see planets, clusters, and on good nights some nebula.
Until I get my 12" Dob, I'm ok with this.
