That was probably the infamous Gaius Baltar.
The original was known simply as Baltar and he did not wear the pinstripes.
The parallel development is of course something to deal with mentally but don't be a spoil sport. After all they are part of the same humanity that we are. :) Believe me it is nowhere near as hokey as the original.
There are some variations.
Humans still worship multiple gods and the Cylons only worship one.
They don't talk about it but smoking is common. The BSG doctor is a chain smoker.
Hard to figure really, other than FTL space flight they are not much beyond us technologically and they still die from degenerative diseases and viruses.
