Current Events » in reply to Misunderstanding

Ahhh comes the dawn.

At this point, I've pretty much gotten the idea that what Tech is after are compliant souls who enjoy following orders for their own sake. He recommends that those who don't like what they're doing be mustered out, leaving only those more "suited" to the military to serve.

I find that entire concept to be dangerous to the Republic. Professional armies can pretty much be deployed at the whim of the king. After a while, as with the Praetorians, they make and unmake their masters.

That I understand very well. And agree with wholeheartedly. A mIlitary divorced from society by Elitism is a very dangerous thing.

One of the fundamental strengths of our services, and those who serve is the fact they're Citizen Soldiers. And that should never, ever change.

Professional officer corps? Good idea. Professional soldiers in all the ranks? Not so much.

Again, I agree wholeheartedly.

The most effective forces have well experienced, able leaders.

While there are a small number of specialty units who should be professionals, the bulk should not be.

One result is that when those who have served, esp in combat, come home, they can temper those who would expend our Services on fool's errands.

You and I have spoken of this before in the past. I said it then, and repeat it now.

No one hates war more than a Soldier, only they know the miserable, ugly side of the most horrific activity Man has devised.

And Hi to you too!
