Early in 2004 I wrote: I personally think there is some good evidence for subsurface water in some form... but the 'mud' and green fields seen by some are rediculous...
(This was in response to claims that some mars pics showed 'mud' on the surface)
So, I guess my point is that I have always been open to the idea of subsurface water on Mars- and even subsurface life- from the images of the waterfalls I have seen and the scale of the images, then it seems the outbursts occurred several hundred meters below the surface. I simply have not supported the idea that liquid water will STAY on the surface for any meaningful amount of time-
But again, I am willing to be wrong on this... but the physics indicates that standing water will quickly disappear- if surface water is gone in a few minutes, then it hardly seems likely that it will contribute to surface life...
What I think CAN be said is that these outflows are the logical place to look for subsurface life...

Just for reference....

- So how long before MRO can get a good look at it?

- were those posts by any chance my posts?
- Yup
- If NASA schedules the announcement of bogus claims about water on Mars to coincide with the release of bad news from Iraq, then it belongs right here
