re: re:What is "To evolve?"

So a fish could crawl out of the water, but should not lose its fins or it would lose it essential "fishiness"?

A worm could grow a notochord, but should not calcify its skeleton, or it would lose its essential "worminess"?

A dinosaur could grow long arms, but not feathers, or it would lose its essential "saurianism"?

An ape could come down from the trees, but not stand on its rear legs, or it would lose its essential "monkiness"?

These are all examples of key steps in the evolution of animals, without which our world would not be the way it is today. And with each of these steps, there weremany others that did not change, so there are still fish, still worms, would still be dinosaurs were it not for Chicxulub, and are still primates.

Only a crazy and weird few of the population of Europe sailed to America, but now there are Americans, and there are still EUuropeans. Sometimes they even talk to each other. Less commonly, they understand each other!

So with the next steps in bio-mechanical and AI evolution. Only a few will make the step, and probably because they are stressed and pressured into an otherwise crazy decision. Yet in the future there will be new types of being, transcending what exists now. Those future beings will not be "better" - just "different".

I hope we continue to talk with them and try to understand them, or we will become their lunch, or they ours...
