And last time I checked, people are animals too, so "unfair" would still apply.
Look, I'm no biotech Luddite. I have no problem with Monsanto experimenting with seeds. But I think we need to be extremely cautious when we begin to consider engineering conscious beings. We're not that smart, and whatever we create would have to live with our foul-ups. Literally.
